IdeaMason Importer Now Imports PubMed Citations

Posted in Releases by Victoria (IdeaMason) on June 21st, 2007

Great news for users of the PubMed online scientific and medical research database. The IdeaMason Import Utility now imports PubMed citation data using the MEDLINE format.

Features
- Imports the full Abstract into the IdeaMason annotation panel of the source.
- Uses the PubMed ID to automatically create a URL mapping to the PubMed abstract page so that the PubMed entry automatically appears in the Source on Web Pane.
- Automatically maps the Electronic Document Path to the DOI web site using the PubMed DOI entry (available on some newer records). In IdeaMason, pressing the “Launch Electronic Document” button will open the browser with a full online copy of the journal article if you subscribe to the appropriate databases.
- Multiple records per saved citation file.

Download
A new version of the Importer (version 3.2.2) is now available for download on our Updates and Patches page. This installation package will overwrite the older version of the Importer, which is packaged together with IdeaMason 3.1.5.2 (our latest release).

How to Use
Once installed, you will see the new PubMed filter. To use the filter, just go to PubMed, search for the records you want, then change the Display to “MEDLINE” in the dropdown. Select one or more articles using the checkboxes and select “File” in the Send To dropdown. Save the file to the desired location on your computer. This file is now the “Source Data File” in the IdeaMason importer.
